In April 2024, our founder Tian published his book Fun and Flavorful – A Guide to Chinese Craft Beer. It’s the first book dedicated to China’s craft beer scene—a guide to the joyful world of craft brewing and a must-have for anyone looking to understand and appreciate the intricacies of craft beer. Following the release at CBCE conference in Shanghai, a series of book signings and sharing sessions were held in Hangzhou, Nanjing, Jinan, Tianjin, Guiyang, Xuzhou and Xi’an etc.
This August, we had fun during our first wine-themed beercation trip to the Helan Mountain East wine region in Yinchuan. We visited various notable vineyards, each with its own unique character, where we picked grapes and sampled signature wines from the region. We happened to be there right during the harvest season and were also lucky to enjoy clear skies, perfect for stargazing.
Beer is one of the oldest beverages in the world. The marvelous combination of malt, yeast, and hops can be either subtly fragrant or robustly refreshing. With the addition of fruits, tea, coffee, or even aging in wood barrels or jars of Chinese wines, there’s nothing you can’t achieve with beer.
For us, the allure of beer goes far beyond its taste. Craft beer brings together a group of good people—passionate, innovative, down-to-earth, and a bit rock ‘n’ roll. We believe that diversity is interesting, uniformity is boring, and even dangerous, especially considering the current situations in China. We’ve decided to start with this “small” matter of beer to show that the world shouldn’t consist of just one “green big bottle.” It is the diversity that is the true essence of the world.
We are a community of craft beer lovers in China. Driven by our own deep-rooted love for craft beer, we founded Beer Matters. It’s this shared passion that enabled us to gather a community of like-minded individuals who cherish craft brews as much as we do.
